ACE
Comprehensive Alarm Analysis, Rationalization and Management of Change Functionality.
The Alarm Configuration Expert (ACE) module is a simple-to-use, advanced analysis package enabling alarm configuration and alarm activity statistical analysis. ACE contains the Alarm Knowledge Base (Alarm KB) that delivers alarm rationalization and documentation functionality to your web browser. The Alarm KB database exceeds best practice standards for Master Alarm Database functionality. Management of Change (MOC) tracking is also integrated into the ACE capabilities to provide a documented and methodical approach to the alarm change approval and implementation process.

✔ Complete, Straightforward Analysis
Flexible analysis reports that are easy to set up and easier to use, including configurable reporting by an extensive number
of criteria such as:
- Alarms per specified time period
- Time in alarm and time to acknowledge
- Stale, standing, chattering, and related alarms
- Alarms distribution by priority or other specified identifiers
- Other key characteristics

✔ Standard Browser Interface
Accessible using a standard commonly-used browser, ACE does not require additional client software.
✔ SQL Server Reporting Services Integration
Tight integration with Microsoft SSRS to allow custom reports to be presented within the TiPSView website. A library of reports are included as samples.
✔ Centralized Alarm Information
Provides a process knowledge database pertaining to alarm configuration settings, alarm removal/addition rationale, and
other alarm characteristics with customizable views of valuable alarm-related attributes. See the Rationalization page.
✔ Simplified Rationalization
An innovative, patented alarm limit calculator simplifies the rationalization process by providing a rational approach to determine the appropriate alarm limits to allow sufficient time to respond to a process upset.
✔ Efficient Change Management
View and approve/reject proposed alarm changes prior to implementation complete with a recorded timestamp and
associated comments.
✔ Easily Accessible Audit Trail
Provides a history of MOC approved and rejected changes to query based on a specific point or time. Reports can be created to automate results.
✔ Improves Identification of Alarm Issues
Enables better and faster identification of alarm related issues, reducing troubleshooting time.
✔ Empowers Users
From operators to corporate management, alarm analysis is accessible and available in customizable views to maximize alarm information value and use.
✔ Better Alarm Design
Facilitates efficient evaluation, analysis and design of alarm priority distribution to increase overall alarm effectiveness.
✔ Enhances Change Control
Improves understanding of how to prioritize and implement alarm changes to optimize performance.
ACE delivers tremendous functionality with easy-to-use software enabling advanced analysis, simplified rationalization, and automated management of change. See some examples of how to apply ACE below.
Bad Actor Removal:
Apply The “80-20 Rule” Using Powerful Data Analysis Tools
It is well known that removal or repair of “bad actor” alarms can result in a substantial reduction in overall alarm activity. LogMate® analysis tools are specifically designed to mine through large databases, highlighting the worst actors, and creating a clear path to reduced nuisance alarm activity.
- Eliminate “bad actor” alarms
- Reduce nuisance alarm activity
- Lay the foundation for better alarm performance
Rationalization And Detail Design:
Integrated Project Management For Alarm Design/Rationalization
Rationalization, like many projects, can involve different people and carry on for a long time. Whether you choose to single-handedly manage changes to the alarm system or a team will be formed, it makes sense to capture the knowledge discovered as the process moves along. It also makes sense to have some way to track the progress of the design effort.
LogMate® helps manage alarm rationalization by providing a central storage database for process and alarm knowledge. As simple as entering text into a web form, you can type notes, comments, and advice into your own Alarm “Knowledge Base.” LogMate® tracks the progress of alarm changes by indicating what has and has not been reviewed as well as what is currently in process.
Management Of Change:
Approval, Rejection, And Audit Of Alarm System Changes
Effective change management ensures that the alarm system remains stable and viable. LogMate®’s management of change module becomes a “buffer zone” where proposed changes can be reviewed prior to implementation. Changes can be approved and passed on for implementation or rejected. All edits are recorded in a change audit file.
An active configuration can be compared to an authorized configuration within the LogMate® management of change module. Any discrepancies are flagged for immediate attention. Integrated change approval and online configuration comparison maintains the integrity of alarm settings.
- “Review/Approve/Reject” changes prior to implementation
- Timestamp and comment changes
